Save 40% on the Ground News unlimited access Vantage plan with my link. Vanadium redox flow batteries are hitting the big time, and I mean big. One of the biggest Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs) ever is a vanadium redox flow battery that just came online in China, with an even bigger one to come in Switzerland. And there’s even more on the way in other countries too. But it raises a couple of questions: “why now,” and “why are they suddenly everywhere but North America?”

Is there such a thing as auditory dyslexia? I kept hearing "VFRB" while reading "VRFB" so I must be losing it—oh, the vagaries of getting old!
It has electrolytes!
500 MW is still nothing compared to thermal spinning reserve
Universal grid will be the future. Storages must be a backup
I believe organic redox flow batteries are the future. Why not mention those. They will be much cheaper and can store more energy per tank
Once again, the demonstration that patents are putting huge brakes on technologies… Good video thanks!
4:41 why are you pushing CCP (Chinese Communist Party) propaganda??? They are not the leader!!!!! They are pumping out new Coal Power Plants daily.
One thing they are the best at is BS!
I like how Japan installed the system years ago without bragging anything about it.

GROUND. Really? Your smarter than that.
Some things I didn't hear in the video:
How toxic is vanadium in the event of a battery failure and chemical spill?
How much pollution does it produce to mine?
The oil barons or lobby didn't allow green tech to proper in the West especially in America, that's why we see China is far ahead now.
Sorry, but all that development stuff involves science. We're getting rid of that.
with the note that the largest sources are Russia and China my brain just broke thinking how far humanity could go if we weren't so damned tribal. Glad there's other sources at least but oof we have a loooong way to go society wise.
I’d love Australia to step up on vanadium mining (we have a lot of deposits) and then into manufacturing. It would take a colossal movement at the federal or state level to dislodge the coal lobbying. We could be exporting and installing across the globe. 😢
57% + expensive… hm, liquified air 40-60% + cheap… difficult choice…
I'm sick and tired of hearing about political bias…. Bias is not a good measure. Because it's fluid. What was centrist politically, 30 years ago is considered leftist today. Trying to build a solid political foundation or bias, is like trying to build a house on sand… Facts and accuracy, although not perfect, are the only way forward.
China jumps ahead in trying cutting edge projects. We need to be more agile here in the States.
PLEASE STOP AUTO DUBBING YOUR VIDEOS. TURN THAT OPTION OFF WHEN UPLOADING. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. PLEASE
Maybe because of the 50% tariffs…
One of the reasons for battery grid storage becoming so popular, is because of war.
Western Australia's state government is also looking at flow batteries (50MW / 10hr) for remote mining towns. I believe it was chosen for its heat tolerance, as the average summer heat is 33C (91F) and during heat waves can go up to 45C (113F).
There are a lot of vanadium deposits around, along with titanomagnetites, pooled with Titanium, iron and of course vanadium. Deposits in PNG and NZ are fine beach sands, so benign mining.
Love these briefings. Thanks Matt!
China = smart, Trump = NOT smart! Thank you CHINA!
How available is Vanadium? If it was said, I missed it.
It's not green energy….It's just new. All stored energy is made for dirty materials. Green is a big lie.
I blame fluoride and neuro, inflammatory compounds, along with excessive medical interventions have damaged, the American intellectual capacity
