And if you are the original buyer, the frame’s serial number should be associated to your name by Trek. So even if you don’t have a proof of purchase yourself, that should handle it.
But if this is second hand… might be out of luck. Still, go to a shop and ask. Some brands will offer you a discount even if you aren’t the original owner.

Hit it with a rubber mallet. If it rings like a bell you’re alright. If it rattles it’s cracked. YMMV

i had the same year marlin frame crack in the same spot. i couldn’t find my original receipt, but the bike shop i bought it from found their copy. trek was good on their warranty for my situation.

Yeah, that’s a warranty issue! Contact the shop you bought it from. We used to keep records for a while, including frame numbers. Or their till system might even be able to print a receipt.
