After the Carretera Austral, between Villa O’Higgins and El Chalten, there is a famous border crossing only available for cyclists and hikers called Paso Dos Lagos. It starts with a long and bumpy ferry from Villa O’Higgins and then 12km of lovely double track to the Argentinian border. From there, it is a challenging 8km of single track to Lago Del Desierto and the Argentinian migration. For the crazy, like myself and my friend Flo, you can even hike an extra 12km around Lago Del Desierto instead of taking the ferry. Finally, a 36km soft descent takes you to the town of El Chalten, which the incredible Mont Fitz Roy looms over.
