This happens with a lot of plastics with a matte or soft finish. Whatever method they’ve used, the finish is applied on top of an existing plastic and often is either less chemically stable than the underlying plastic or not bonded very well to it. If this were my helmet, and it doesn’t have any other issues, I would see what it might take to either get it all off or prevent it from flaking off everywhere.

  2. Possibly nothing more serious than the matt topcoat thats not adhering well to the colour layer underneath but with a helmet and the things that can happen if they fail I would seriously advise that you get it properly inspected to make sure it is nothing more serious than a peeling layer. It’s impossible to say more than that from a photo it needs a physical check.

  3. I love how they picked a name that just screams “piece of crap”. Fitting, at least with this helmets quality

That’s the “warning sticker” that says it’s time to replace your helmet

On my helmet, that’s the matte film. Mine is also delaminating, but when I contacted Smith Optics, they were happy to replace it. You could peel it or you could contact POC and see what they say.

  6. Did you ever hit it with bug spray? Potentially something with Deet, like OFF! Deep Woods or something? This type of de-lam can happen over time with exposure to UV but hitting it with the wrong bug spray can make it happen immediately.
