I made a post on here that got a few replyanon yesterday asking if I could change this to a 1x but leaving the rear cassette the same. Lots of mixed reviews but I thought I would try.
Ordered a 36t front Narrow wide chainring for £25 and then some single chainring bolts for £7. After reading alot of comments saying it had the potential to not work and I needed new cranks etc etc I just wanted to let you you all know it works PERFECT.
Literally just unbolted the old chainrings, bolted back on the Narrow Wide chainring with single chainring bolts and it works perfect. Gears are smooth as a whistle. Done a 20 mile ride with no sign of chain drop and the gear ratios are perfect. It’s only a 1×8 but the granny gear is still super easy but because I changed it from a 34 to a 36 the hardest gear is something I can’t imagine I’ll be pedalling much at that speed and all the Inbetween gears are cruising gears.
I honestly can’t believe for an extra £35ish I’ve converted my new cheapish gravel bike to a 1x and it makes it feel so much nicer and simpler.
