Hello, just trying to learn how to do this stuff on my free time. I bought a set of used wheels on the cheap and they do fit but I notice that the wheel doesn’t line up with where the hole for the brake caliper is supposed to be mounted. Any advice? Like did I do something wrong?

Ok, so I think my problem here might be the rear triangle is misaligned. This is an old vintage frame that i got out of a deal and I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be 126mm spacing in the rear. I was surprised that the 130mm hub slid right in, so my theory is that someone tried to coldset this frame and didn’t do it right. Not sure, just getting into this kind of stuff but any opinions or advice would be appreciated

  2. You can use a piece of string and a ruler to check the frame alignment, there are YouTube videos that show the method. I would start with that and then determine what to do next.

I don’t know if the frame is misaligned, but zooming in on pics 2 and 3 and using a ruler on the screen, looks to me that the wheel also has a biased dish towards the non drive side.

It might also be that the wheel is dished for a high sprocket count – 9, 10, 11 speed cassette, whereas an older rear triangle might be looking for 5, 6 or 7 speed dishing? Just a thought

  5. Pic 3 (bird’s-eye) you can see the left DS dropout is set further back than the right NDS dropout. Frame is bent IMO. Also, does either dropout have horizontal adjustment?
