This Commencal Meta HT (27.5, tubeless) has a Rekon+ on the rear and a High Roller 2 on the front, both are 2.80″.

I added a PNW dropper post which has been an absolute game changer for climbing but I still find that I’m running out of juice.. do you guys think that getting narrower tires will make it more efficient? It’s currently a pretty plush ride but I’d be willing to give some of that up to get more mileage per session. I’m pretty much a novice and don’t bomb hills crazy fast.

I also ride in the Santa Cruz MTN area as well as Tahoe so if you guys have any combo recs for traction, I’d be happy to look into those as well.

Tl;dr : Would downsizing from 2.80 tires make climbing easier or should I just get into better shape and deal with it?

Regular sized tires may drop your bottom bracket height a bit leading to more pedal strikes. Worth testing though.

What’s your inner rim width? If it’s 25mm or less, I’d probably downsize tires. I really like 2.4″ rekon rear and dissector front. High Roller 2 in 2.8 is a lot of rolling resistance. Upping fork pressure a tad and oval chainring could likely do you favors on the climbs as well.
