Background: was 135kg, now 93 and losing more. 176cm. Broad. Weight training x 2 a week. Working on ditching tummy and tits!

Went hard and bought a great bike in November.
Riddled with self doubt and give far too many fucks about being judged etc but trying not to!

Found a couple of jerseys the designs I absolutely love – 1 XL Maap, 1 Rapha Oil Slick in XXL. See pics.

Appreciate club / training fit prob best for me but wondering if these are total non starters and would value your views / opinion, especially any experience of kit sizing when you’re abit bigger / shrinking etc!

Thanks in advance.

It looks good! This is how it’s supposed to fit.

Cycling gear should fit like NFL compression gear, not gym clothes.

Good for you for taking care of yourself! Keep at it! The process and how it makes you feel in the end matters more than the numbers on your scale.

Now, fit is personal, so don’t listen to those who say clothes should fit this or that way. I personally don’t like aero fit which is why I prefer Rapha Classics. You do you.

Looks good. If you plan on losing more weight don’t buy a lot of kit. I went from L to S in 6 months … I still have L jerseys with tags lying around.

  4. I’ll be honest, these jerseys are made for racing/training to race. They cost silly amounts of money, because they’re able to say they will make you more aero/faster. It sounds like at this point you just want to lose weight and get more fit. You can do that in rapha core. You’re also going to sweat a lot, so better to have more cheap kit than fewer expensive kits. You look fine though.

I think the maap one fits better. But both look good. If you are planning to lose more weight do not get many jerseys yet. I went from XL and L, to XS within a year of very intense biking. 😅
I have a cupboard box full of clothes that are too big for me now

  6. I like the first one (darker colours). The photos are a bit dark to tell for sure but judging by the edges around the arms it doesn’t look like it’s too tight, just tight enough. If it feels comfortable I say you keep it. Some people will look at you and think that this is not for you, but what they think is none of your business, and at the end of the day you shouldn’t care about it. If however, you are easily seated by other people’s negativity, wear anything that will make your ride comfortable and you confident about it.

Kudos on your great progress btw!

  7. Be proud of what you’ve accomplished! That’s hard work!! I’m a firm believer in wearing whatever the hell you like in pursuit of something healthy that brings you joy. If people judge, just smile and remember that, deep down, they envy you.
    Ride on…
