I fitted the above 1.37 x 24 Shimano road bb to my bike with a bb frame width of 68mm. When fitting my crankset the spindle appeared to short. It’s a used parts crankset with a dura-ace crank on the drive side and a 105 on the non-drive side. The spindle seems to be just too short by 1-2mm or so in order for me to be able to fit the crankarm safety plate in the hole of the spindle. What can be the reason for this? Is it just a problem of combining the 105 and dura-ace cranks? Could there be a different reason?

It’s my daily commuter bike and I’d like to keep the costs to a minimum if possible.

I appreciate any advice on this.

  1. Shimano road uses the 68mm standard and Hollowtech 2 cranks are pretty much all cross compatible.

Sounds basic, but are you sure the spindle side is in all the way? Sometimes they’re stiff on new bearing seals.

Should fit. Which series of Dura Ace / 105 parts do you use? They might have different depths. If the 105 is thicker than the original Dura Ace Counterpart it may appear too short.
