  1. it goes outside the rim. im pretty sure its there to hold the valve in place when you attach your pump. so the valve doesn’t get pushed into the rim.

    Does the knurled nut fit into it? If so I’d guess the plastic piece goes outside of the rim to protect it from the nut.

They’re meant to sit more evenly against your rim and match the curve of the rim profile better so that the nut isn’t placing an unusual amount of pressure against the very top of your rim profile, especially if your rim is carbon and the nut is metal. It probably also helps prevent valve rattle, which is a known issue with metal valves. You put them outside your rim but under your valve nut.

    My Ridenow tubes didn’t come with them, so maybe it’s recent. Would be an appreciated addition for me.

    Anyways, its meant to sit curvy side down against the rim.
