In need of some help from a noob

Hi all!

I’ve got a 2014 Focus Mares cx, easily the most fun out of my five bikes. I’ve built up to be a little bit of a quiver killer, at least for me. It’s a bit of a Frankenstein build. 10 speed SRAM Red mechanical, goat link to fit a wide range cassette in. Redshift seat post and stem-bar combo, and with the fattest tires I can, 45 in the front and 38 with some chunky knobs for climbing out of the saddle for more grip in the back.

My question is if I were to purchase a Lauf Grit fork (not sure what one yet) what I would need to check in terms of compatibility to the frame?

I already know I’ll have to find a new front wheel for disc brakes, along with hydrologic shifter. Just not sure where to start to look for if it would just slide.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Axle to crown length and rake/offset in terms of geometry.

Steer tube/crown race size, brake mounts and axle standard for compatibility.

You probably can’t run a QR wheel and definitely won’t be able to run rim brakes with a lauf fork. You could replace your front wheel and run cable actuated hydro brakes to make it work, IF everything else is compatible.

Edit: read the rest of your post. Check your steer tube standard. I would assume the mares is a straight 1 1/8 steerer. If there’s a lauf with the same it will work with a new wheel and brake setup.
