  1. I had a warmshowers guest last month who dismantled his bike completely and put it into a bag that was about 100x15x60cm. Just big enough to stretch across the end points of the frame. It went easily into the front seat of a taxi and I doubt that he had to pay for a bike on the plane, as technically it was just parts.

It looked really easy compared to a bike box. However, it took him a couple of hours to fully dismantle the bike and pack it.

My tip is to just tie rope around it to make a handle. If you put it in the right place you can “carry” the box under your arm. It’s not perfect, but it helps. But that other tip about wheels is better.

  2. Last time I needed to get to the airport with a bike box, I just loaded the box onto one of those Lime scooters and pushed it to the airport bus stop.
