Looking to upgrade my hybrid bike and think I’ve narrowed it down to two options.
I’m looking at the latest Trek FX Sport 4 and the Domane AL 4.
I’m coming from a Diamondback Insight 2 that I’ve had for over 15 years. So either of these will be a big upgrade for me. Nothing fancy on my current bike; not even disc brakes. Photo included for reference.
Anyways. I live and ride in Florida so it’s flat, no hills to deal with. Currently I ride 15 mile rides but have done up to 30. I usually keep a pace of 15-20mph. My main motivation is losing weight and getting in shape, I’ve lost 70lbs since July, and 130lbs since 2021. I mainly do 5 laps around my neighborhood each night to get my 15 miles in.
I’d like to start venturing out more and exploring some of the parks around here, some of them are grass and gravel trails, my current bike cannot handle them.
I’ve never ridden a bike with a drop bar before so I’m not sure how I’d like it. I don’t have any plans to race and speed isn’t much of a concern to me as long as I can maintain 15-20mph relatively easily.
I do have joint/nerve/muscle issues that bother me sometimes; mainly knees, wrists, and hamstrings. So something comfortable is desired.
I’m leaning towards the FX Sport 4 because I like the full carbon frame and the fact it support a greater variety of tires sizes. It seems a lot of versatility can be had by swapping road/gravel tires as needed.
Thoughts on this? Any advice is appreciated. I plan to find both of these locally and test ride if possible.

Sounds like you already narrowed it down. If you are just casually riding, speed isn’t a priority, and you want tire size options, then you don’t really need the drop bars.
Yeah the FX4 will be a nice bike. I don’t live near the coast so don’t have the issue you do with rust and corrosion. Your Diamondback has seen some environment
