Endurance cyclist Payson McElveen Just Biked Across Iceland in Less than a Day

In 19 hours and 45 minutes, the biker completed the 257-mile Iceland Crossing trip.

The 28-year-old from Durango, Colorado, travelled from Akureyri, a city on Iceland’s northern coast, to Vk, the country’s southernmost coastal town.

The journey was strenuous, distant, and complicated by adverse weather.

McElveen’s journey brought him 257 miles into Iceland’s highlands, a sparsely populated plateau that occupies the majority of the country’s interior.
