After collecting my new bike in January (and promising to show it on the channel!) it was finally time to get out for an ‘easy overnighter’.

Join me as I make my way across to East Yorkshire and the North Sea, and then a few miles up the coast into North Yorkshire.

Lovely quiet cycling, countryside and coastal views under sunny winter skies – can’t say the same for the Day 2 weather, but that’s another story! πŸ™‚

Hope you enjoy the video and happy cycling!

  1. I have a few bikes, none too pricey but my favourite time and again is my old steel hybrid converted to 105 11-speed with drops. There's something about riding a lightweight steel frame that you just don't feel with the modern stuff. Glad you are enjoying your new ride and the Brooks saddle will feel amazing in time, probably 500 miles or so 😊. I have the Way of the Roses pencilled in for May/June.

  2. Great 2 have you back! Ahhhh spa cycles, literally 2 mibs from me. Fair 2 say there err, quite niche😊
While since been in. Have great reputation for steel frsme touring and excellent hand made wheels.
Way of Roses a great route. Not done hadrians way yet.
Must admit never seen a Brooks saddle with a cut out b4

  3. Did a similar thing last March. Loaded the bike and headed up the east coast from Cleethorpes. Camped overnight at Flamborough, Loftus near Staithes, North Shields (prem inn) and Beadnell Bay before getting train back from Berwick on Tweed. Fabulous 5 days riding with some great views.

  4. Really enjoyed your ride πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈThe bike looks super cool all in black ! It reminds me of a Black Cadillac for some reason maybe the style and quality harks back to the old days …It looks like you may have lost a little weight since the last video ? Looking forward to your β€œ Nerd fest” and what you carry in relation to tools ect ..Catch you soon Best Mike πŸ‘ŒπŸš΄β€β™‚οΈπŸŽ₯πŸ₯‡

  5. I bought the Spa Audax with 105. The paint job was poor, especially around the seat stays / rear stays. Nice ride, but arrived without even having had the gears indexed.

  6. With the Brooks saddle slaken the the front tension bolt off, as the leather slakens gradually tightened it back up will take a little time to bed in but takes the pressure off.
Treat it regularly with the Brooks Profide, I've broken in four Brooks b17 saddles in over the years all my bike now have them on😊

  7. Fantastic bike, sure you’ll have many happy travels ahead. Did the way of the roses myself last year. I would agree with you on say it’s one of the best coast to coast routes, very challenging elevation on day one to pateley bridge, beautiful, jaw dropping scenery everywhere you look. Planned a version of coast to coast myself I plan to do in May. Starting in Southport, heading to Preston, trough of bowland, settle, Ribblehead, Hawes, Bedale, great ayton, Whitby and down the coast to Scarborough.

  8. I’ve always enjoyed your films. What a lovely looking new bike, you must be made up. Laughed when you said some do TWOTR in one day, some do it in three. I did it in six 🀭 I bought a little 3 speed Brompton 10 years ago and it is the perfect bike for me. I love to travel slowly, walking a bit, riding a bit and stopping to do little watercolours along the way. I look at your new bike and feel a pang of β€œwould like a proper tourer” but truth is the little Brommie carries all my camping stuff in just one big front bag (isn’t LW modern camping stuff awesome?!) and potters along mile after mile at a speed that suits my slow cycling. You’ve reminded me I need to get Hadrians Cycle ticked off the list this year, east to west. I must revisit your film of the ride πŸ‘πŸ» Looking forward to seeing you and the new bike day two, happy trails πŸ€—

  9. Nice video, I used to live in East Yorkshire so know the area well. Out of interest, I bought a hybrid touring bike a couple of years ago that was spec’d with 650b wheels and 47mm tyres that I initially took some persuading to try. However, what a revelation it has turned out to be. You can run the larger tyres at a lower pressure and it makes the bike so comfortable that all day riding is a breeze and it takes rough terrain in its stride – better than my gravel bike. It doesn’t seem to have any drag on the rolling resistance either.

  10. Lovely bike and great video. You totally inspired me to get out my steel tourer (Genesis Tour de Fer 20 so quite similar I think) I literally I had to stop the video half way through whilst I did this, ready for a ride this arvo! Thank you for the inspiration and I’m looking forward to your tech video about the bike πŸ™‚
