After collecting my new bike in January (and promising to show it on the channel!) it was finally time to get out for an ‘easy overnighter’.
Join me as I make my way across to East Yorkshire and the North Sea, and then a few miles up the coast into North Yorkshire.
Lovely quiet cycling, countryside and coastal views under sunny winter skies – can’t say the same for the Day 2 weather, but that’s another story! π
Hope you enjoy the video and happy cycling!

I would love to ride a bike but I dont feel safe with the cars around that go 60+kmh around me
Hope you have many great trips on your new bike. π
I have a few bikes, none too pricey but my favourite time and again is my old steel hybrid converted to 105 11-speed with drops. There's something about riding a lightweight steel frame that you just don't feel with the modern stuff. Glad you are enjoying your new ride and the Brooks saddle will feel amazing in time, probably 500 miles or so π. I have the Way of the Roses pencilled in for May/June.
Really enjoyed the video. Thank you. Looked like you really enjoyed.
Cracking bike mate. Body position looks great for long rides. Hope she serves you well π
Great 2 have you back! Ahhhh spa cycles, literally 2 mibs from me. Fair 2 say there err, quite nicheπ
While since been in. Have great reputation for steel frsme touring and excellent hand made wheels.
Way of Roses a great route. Not done hadrians way yet.
Must admit never seen a Brooks saddle with a cut out b4
well done to you mate!
Best of luck with your new bike and many safe miles on your lovely bike.
Did a similar thing last March. Loaded the bike and headed up the east coast from Cleethorpes. Camped overnight at Flamborough, Loftus near Staithes, North Shields (prem inn) and Beadnell Bay before getting train back from Berwick on Tweed. Fabulous 5 days riding with some great views.
Like the bike. Steel is real and worth a few extra kilos. I've got 2 Kona Sutras which are great. Flat bars..tick, Brooks saddle..tick. (I found them comfortable straight away)
New subscriber, nice bike and ride, looking forward to more videos, thanks for taking us along: Russ ππΌπ΄ββοΈ
It's not recommended but I find Brooks saddles are better if you get the leather slightly damp (but not around the rivets) then ride them it.. it helps take your shape
Really enjoyed your ride π΄ββοΈThe bike looks super cool all in black ! It reminds me of a Black Cadillac for some reason maybe the style and quality harks back to the old days β¦It looks like you may have lost a little weight since the last video ? Looking forward to your β Nerd festβ and what you carry in relation to tools ect ..Catch you soon Best Mike ππ΄ββοΈπ₯π₯
thanks man, that's a nice machine, love the Yorkshire Coastline, great stuff
What a lovely bike ride!
I bought the Spa Audax with 105. The paint job was poor, especially around the seat stays / rear stays. Nice ride, but arrived without even having had the gears indexed.
Im new to your channel , great machine and looking forward to you running down the spec of it and looking forward to seeing more of your adventures .
Hi,Iβm new to your channel, thanks for taking us along I love the new bike, looking forward to seeing the spec, all the best Colin P.
Nice video, but I recommend that you wear a helmet. Your cap wonβt protect your head if you fall.
I have heard of breaking in a pair of leather boots etc, but never thought of a leather bicycle saddle.
Gaz Yorkshire coast.
With the Brooks saddle slaken the the front tension bolt off, as the leather slakens gradually tightened it back up will take a little time to bed in but takes the pressure off.
Treat it regularly with the Brooks Profide, I've broken in four Brooks b17 saddles in over the years all my bike now have them onπ
Fantastic bike, sure youβll have many happy travels ahead. Did the way of the roses myself last year. I would agree with you on say itβs one of the best coast to coast routes, very challenging elevation on day one to pateley bridge, beautiful, jaw dropping scenery everywhere you look. Planned a version of coast to coast myself I plan to do in May. Starting in Southport, heading to Preston, trough of bowland, settle, Ribblehead, Hawes, Bedale, great ayton, Whitby and down the coast to Scarborough.
Iβve always enjoyed your films. What a lovely looking new bike, you must be made up. Laughed when you said some do TWOTR in one day, some do it in three. I did it in six π€ I bought a little 3 speed Brompton 10 years ago and it is the perfect bike for me. I love to travel slowly, walking a bit, riding a bit and stopping to do little watercolours along the way. I look at your new bike and feel a pang of βwould like a proper tourerβ but truth is the little Brommie carries all my camping stuff in just one big front bag (isnβt LW modern camping stuff awesome?!) and potters along mile after mile at a speed that suits my slow cycling. Youβve reminded me I need to get Hadrians Cycle ticked off the list this year, east to west. I must revisit your film of the ride ππ» Looking forward to seeing you and the new bike day two, happy trails π€
Nice to find your channel again. All the best with the new bike.
Done Trans Pennine and Way of the Roses. Both well worth it.
Good old gaffa tape brilliant video. I do most of my cycling on a full steel touring bike very heavy tho.
Nice video, I used to live in East Yorkshire so know the area well. Out of interest, I bought a hybrid touring bike a couple of years ago that was specβd with 650b wheels and 47mm tyres that I initially took some persuading to try. However, what a revelation it has turned out to be. You can run the larger tyres at a lower pressure and it makes the bike so comfortable that all day riding is a breeze and it takes rough terrain in its stride – better than my gravel bike. It doesnβt seem to have any drag on the rolling resistance either.
Lovely bike and great video. You totally inspired me to get out my steel tourer (Genesis Tour de Fer 20 so quite similar I think) I literally I had to stop the video half way through whilst I did this, ready for a ride this arvo! Thank you for the inspiration and Iβm looking forward to your tech video about the bike π
