Join me on an incredible mountain bike adventure across the beautiful island of Gozo, Malta! This ride takes us through rugged trails, green valleys, and scenic coastal cliffs—showcasing Gozo’s breathtaking winter landscapes. 🌞⛅🌿
The journey starts in Xagħra, where we ride through the picturesque Ta’ Bullara area, surrounded by traditional rubble walls and vibrant fields full of wildflowers. We then venture into Wied Marsalforn (Marsalforn Valley), cycling beneath lush trees before reaching Ta’ Barda, with stunning views of Tal-Merżuq Hill (Tas-Salvatur) and its iconic Risen Christ statue.
From there, we take an off-road route through the valleys of Wied Ta’ Gerxija and Wied Iċ-Ċianti, offering breath-taking views of the Cittadella, Gozo’s ancient fortress. As we reach the heart of the island, we cycle through Republic Street in Victoria, passing historic landmarks, charming cafes, and the famous TaPie’s Bar, known for its traditional Maltese pastizzi!
For a bit of fun, I take a shortcut down the Saint Francis Square stairs before heading to Xewkija, where I ride through two peaceful public gardens—Ulysses Garden and Ta’ Blankas Garden—surrounded by pure nature.
The adventure continues as we descend towards the secluded bay of Mġarr ix-Xini, home to a historic Knights of St. John watchtower from 1661. After soaking in the coastal views, we take on the rocky off-road terrain of Ta’ Bolonja and Ras in-Newwela, cycling along stunning cliffside trails overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
We finish the ride back in Xagħra, passing through Pjazza Vittorja (Victory Square), home to the magnificent Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady and a vibrant selection of local cafes.
