I was looking for a backpack that can easily be converted into a pannier and bought this one. The first time I half filled it with grocerices and attached it to my bike rack the hooks snapped and the straps caught in my wheel causing me to come off my bike in front of a bus. I was using the bag as per their instructions.

I should have known that the design was not fit for purpose. The company has completed ignored my emails about this. Their listing doesn't even mention a weight limit for the backpack which I think is incredibly negligent.

For anyone who has this backpack please be careful. The reviews in general look good but on trustpilot you can see people have had similar experiences to me.

  1. ouch that sucks, hope you aren’t too banged up.

Honestly this fear is why I went for a hardsided bucket that I can fit my backpack into over a backpack that clips to the rack. I picket the specialized coolcave pannier (can often be found for deep discount)

I’ve been extremely happy with my Arkel Bug pannier backpack, which I’ve been using almost daily for the last 3 years. When it’s secured properly it is damn near immovable, like it’s welded to the rack.

(Mine did fall off once in traffic, but it was my own fault because I clipped it on in a hurry and I didn’t do it correctly…)

  3. I got an Ortlieb convertible pannier/backpack which is brilliant. It’s fully waterproof and as secure as Ortlieb panniers generally are when attached to a rack. It takes a few seconds to convert between the two and it’s self standing, which can be handy for finding things or putting things in. The roll top closure means it’s pretty easy to fill right up.
