Last year my son outgrew his old bike so I got this functional again for him. New grips, pedals, seat and maybe shifters? This year I scored him a TREK 3500 over the winter and yesterday a friend gave me a Giant Roam 4 Disc with a way damaged derailleur and hanger that will be fixed this week. I’m not really sure now what to do with this classic.

I have this exact bike and fixed it up last year. The only changes I’ve made since this photo is replacing the milk crate with a wald basket

Make it your Tinker bike. You could turn it into a single speed or put a Clydesdale fork on it or strip it down paint the frame and weld a disc tab on it.
Find joy in it. Otherwise if it will just sit around collecting dust sell it and use the money to better fit the new bikes
