trying to fix my mates bmx and where his petal screws into is stripped so i told him i’ll replace the cranks with one of the extra sets i have but i have no clue how to undo this bolt.
Allen key? inside the square bit looks allen key shaped when i zoom in on the second photo

You just use the appropriate sized ratchet. No bit needed, just the handle straight into that. It is either 3/8 or 1/2.

If you saw that square and had to guess what would you imagine to fit? Perhaps a 3/8 ratchet? I have never seen that on a crank fixing bolt but I think we can reasonably assume that. That being said if you are inexperienced search for tech documents online to confirm the proper procedure. A huge part of being a good mechanic is finding and reading directions

I checked and kink does not have a product manual for the crank but does show it disassembled and those are indeed just regular 3 piece bmx cranks with a weird square drive head
