Picked up an old bike to restore. Brake boss seemed to have been squashed at one point or another. How should I go about getting the caliper off? File the boss? Heat it up? Thanks!
Heating till soft is not practical, thats very hot, might compromisse the brasing.
Filing the boss might make the boss too short for the shown brake (pivot) design? (just attacking the ofending material seem)
Forcing it of might damage the brass friction sleeve in the pivot. Thats simplest aproach especialy considering whats left oft the fit (as in already loose)

See if there is a 9mm wrench interface on the boss. [Some are removable.](https://youtu.be/cgBgfNdkDj8?si=GK98SxjLt7_-dr8v) If there are other ways out of this pickle, I would love to learn… 😬

If the post is mushroomed it is not typically right at the top edge where you can get to it. All you can really do is very slowly and carefully force it off. Dump a bunch of oil in there and go slow, pretty easy to snap the whole post off.
They used to make tools to clean up the post, like a tiny crown race cutter/facer. You can take a file to the bulged section, as soon as you run a file around the post the bulged ring is pretty obvious.
