Heya, I have this Soma Competition frame I bought from the bike shop I volunteer at and at the same time had just finished putting together an Ultegra groupset that I intend to build the Soma with. Only issue now is that I found out the Soma frame takes 27in wheels and I do not want to go through with building or buying 27in wheels when 700c are the road standard and makes my life easier for when I need tubes and tires in the future. So Im wondering what long reach calipers y'all recommend to convert a 27" wheel frame to fit 700c wheels. I know this will break the Ultegra groupset so I'm actually planning on taking all the components from my Trek 470 and putting that on the Soma and building up the Trek with the full ultegra groupset. Does that seem sound? are there alternative options for the Soma?

  1. have you tried seeing if the ultegras will line up? Alternatively think of it like this. Putting 700c’s in a frame that was originally for 27’s means you probably have room for a 32-36c tire easily.

Personally I don’t care about everything matching that much so I’d probably just mix long reach calipers ( if needed ) in with ultegra bits …

  2. You sure it’s 27”? Soma didn’t exist when 27” wheels were being phased out in the 80s. It might be 650c if it’s a tiny frame. Have you tried fitting 700c wheels with tires first?
