Hey all, looking at This Giant eMTB for $3500

TL;DR – I'm not a huge mountain bike guy, but have been thinking about an eBike and this one seems like a good deal? As a new person, it's hard for me to decipher what's legitimately a good deal.

I'm more of a BJJ / MT guy, but do have two little ones and we've enjoyed getting onto the local trails. However, my youngest is 6 and having a motor sure you make it easier to tow him up the mountain. My goal is to have fun, keep the wheels on the ground, and not fall off the bike.

Bike dude was trying to sell me on a 2023 Specialized Comp Carbon Pro for $6,000, but seems way beyond my needs. That said, I'm a "buy once, cry once" kind of person and would buy consider if it's really that much better. I have a hard time believing it's twice as good as the Giant, but open to opinions.

Thanks!

Edits –

I will mostly be doing chill blue trails and below. Generally 90 minutes would be the top.

Budget – This about tops it out, unless someone really thought the specialized was worth double the price.

My current bike is fun, but does not have a motor.

My experience is pretty much non existent, but I'm fairly atheltic for a 40 year old. Mostly looking for chill rides with friends and growing with my kiddos.

  1. Decent bike and Giant makes good products and stands by their warranty. You would have to pay for labor by bringing this to a local Giant shop for warranty items. This is a lot of power that is relatively lightweight and less battery than a Levo or the Trek Rail (but with the same power. If you are expecting 10-14 miles rides then this is a great choice. If you wanted 20+ mile rides I would go for the Rail or the Levo with a 700wh battery. The new Levos come out in the Spring with some saying a $1499 reduction in price. The new Treks are $5.5k but are nice with 800 wh battery and the Bosch motor is hands down the best bet atm.

  2. Check out Giants US website and compare it to their deals. I had the older 500w Giants and they were fun, but the battery was only good for ~25 miles of legit riding. I’m on a 720w bike now and can do some gnarly 30 mile days or 40+ mile days on easier stuff. Just get as big of a battery you can. I did have one of my motors start to fail and Giant replaced it. Other than that I didn’t have any issues with their design.
