Hey everyone,

I just bought a Specialized Hardrock and want to swap the handlebar for a Surly Sunrise. Since I won’t have much time to work on the bike, I’d like to get everything right in one go.

I’m wondering what type of stem adapter I should use to make this work. Would it be better to replace the entire fork (and therefore switch to an Aheadset system), or is there a solid adapter solution?

Also, I don’t know the exact head tube size on a Specialized Hardrock. If anyone has that info, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

You will need a 1 inch quill bmx stem or get a 1 inch threaded to 1 1/8″ threadless adaptor. The sunrise and sunset come with shim to fit the bar in either a 31.8 stem clamp or 22.2 stem without the shim

  2. Look up quill adapters. Basically just a small stub that fits a quill stem fork that allows you to use a modern stem. Comes in all sizes. I have one I found on Amazon for $20, been working perfectly for a year on my hard rock. Way cheaper than a new fork and it looks way cleaner, IMHO.
