Hi r/bicycling community!
I come with a desperate plea on behalf of my social-media less husband. He bought this bike frame from a pawn shop with grand hopes of turning it from a road bike to a mountain bike and has all the supplies to do it, but any photos of wheeler 6600’s all come with different size stock tires and don’t have a ZX on it?
Does anyone know anything about this specific model of wheeler bike? The year, the worth, experience taking it from a 28 to 26 inch tire, or modifying it in any way?
Help me help Redditless Husband not scream into the void with his tools anymore.

Personally Ive never heard of a 28” wheel. 29, 27.5 and 26” yes. But if you do change rim sizes you will need to re-mount your rim brakes.
Most of what you are asking can all be found on the bike itself.
Looking at the crankset, it appears to be mid to late 90’s. It’s got a 700c wheel on, you can’t put smaller 26″ wheels on as the brakes wont be in the right place. The best you can do is put bigger tyres on if they fit. We can’t tell you what size over the internet though, best to take it to a shop and they can look at it and tell you what the biggest size you can likely fit in the frame.
It has the feel of a bike model that was once a fairly nice steel bike in the early 90s, but has been diminished somewhat though nice alu into that.

I remember working on that Nexave group set. Reverse-rise rear derailleur and anti-lock vbrakes that felt like a fist full of mashed potatoes. Bike appears to have 700c wheels. Probably wouldn’t make much of a mountain bike due to tire clearance, and not the right parts (or worth the investment) to make it a road bike. Great bike for urban riding and bike paths. Would also be ok on very light trail/gravel. And that looks like a super cool rack!
