With three free days perfectly aligned, i packed up my Lapierre Crosshill bicycle and boarded the train north from Dublin’s Connolly station. I was in good company with my sister, Lily, our friend, Emma, and a very chatty woman in the seat nearest by.
Our first stop was Belfast, UK for a cafe breakfast, city sightseeing, and a train connection to castlerock.
After lily and i missed our intended stop and navigated the fastest link back, the three of us spent the evening on castlerock beach and collected dinner supplies at the one shop that was open on main street.
The next day took lily and emma back home to dublin while I explored the Mussenden Temple and Downhill Demesne National Trust.
After another grocery store dinner and fabulous night of rest – I awoke and cycled east along the causeway coastal route. My goals of seeing the Giant’s Causeway were eventually shattered by two flat tires and recurring chain issues.
The timing of my misfourtune could not have been better though – I was close enough to Portrush, UK which satisfied my appetite and had a train station that got me all the way home.
As they say … now i’ve left myself a reason to return 🙂
