Typically the rule of thumb is if you’re in-between sizes to always go down. It’s easier to make a small bike big than it is to make a big bike small.
It’s much easier (and better) to make a smaller frame fit you than a larger one. If you are unsure, go for the slightly smaller one.
I am leaning towards the size 57 Ritchey and just getting a shorter stem. Really almost every other measurement is comparable between the Ritchey and the 56 Caledonia. Is it true that sizing up like this on an “aggressive” geometry can make it a bit more comfortable?
Size down IMO
Depends on what you use the bike for, everyone here saying size down are not taking your situation into account. That recommendation has been regurgitated since the 70’s. I’ve regretted every time I have sized down.
I want room in the triangle for larger water bottles on longer rides. Ritchey usually places their bottle bosses higher up “so it’s easier to reach” n/m the fact that I’m tall enough to reach down. The Montebello is the only frame with lower cage bosses they make, thank you Fergus.
The steeper head tube may mean you need to go 20mm shorter. How many spacers do you run? Carbon steerers should only be 30-40mm exposed above the head set. Give us more fit info or a photo of your current set up.

55cm for sure. Ritchey sizing 10mm more stretched compared to mainstream brands.
I went from 56 Allez (Tarmac geometry) to 55cm Ritchey Logic and it’s spot on same size wise.
Below 100mm stem, road bikes start to feel jittery in the steering, especially with the steeper head angle. 110mm is within sweet spot for stem length in terms of stability.
On that site I like to press the gear icon for more settings then do “simplify tire” and “align ground”.
The default setting “align bottom bracket” doesn’t seem very useful to me.

This is what the retul fit system was designed for.
I would choose a different bike. If a frame doesn’t fit, it doesn’t fit. I have been through this multiple times, and then I discovered a frame that truly fit. Millimeters matter.
How tall are you? What about stack? I’m 5’ 11” and have an older 56 Breakaway and opted for the 57 road with a 10 stem (instead of my normal 11). Ended up selling it though…
