Hey all,

I’m headed to Turnhout, Belgium for a ripping gravel race in late March. The stock gearing on the canyon is 42 chainring paired with a 10x44T cassette. Given the event is ~145km with a total elevation gain of 200m, I’m thinking a larger chainring (48T) or a 10x32T cassette would keep the gear jumps to a minimum. Any suggestions out there? p.s. next we can discuss tires 😊

Thanks!!!

You can still hit 45-55kph with 42-10, are you really planning on going much faster than that during the course?

Nvm you’re thinking more about gear jumps not speed, my bad!

two hundred meters, or 640 feet?

For max performance you’d want to stay in the middle of the cassette and have a low enough bottom end, so what’s the biggest available?

Tire size will matter too, use a gear inch calculator.

I have 2.1 tires and a 44t and will be able to cruise at 20mph in the 3rd or 4th smallest cog with a reasonable cadence with a 10-51.

I’m on 40T with a 10-36 and might go a bit bigger on the front for Turnhout. It’s panflat and a pretty quick course. Last year for me the 40×10-36 was limited by fitness and not spinning out <_<.
