  2. Bad, don’t waste your money unless you have a spare fork with a different CSU/stanchions or you’re buying this one for parts. If the wear is that bad on the visible part of the fork, the internals of it are probably roached too.

    I only want it to commute and have some fun in the streets. It’s 40€ for an air fork. It only needs to be better than my budget spring fork.

  4. Cooked. This fork is dead, as sliding action is nonexistent. At the very least it would require new uppers + new bushings + new seals, and equipment & expertise to install everything properly. Easily upwards of €150

    Toasted, but there are companies that will repair CSUs with new stanchions, but honestly for the budget users anything in that region of spending will scare you off, if the dampers blown too or lowers seriously damaged too there’s not many parts left.

    Better go for brand new budget suntours or something for under £100..
    Just replace them if you can’t give them a grease service once in a while…

    Just curious since I know nothing about this – but what specifically indicates the fork is toast? Just the worn off plating on the stanchion?

    Not doubting anyone, just want to understand it better.

    Air spring requirements; sealing… Good lubricant, lots of maintenance…

    If it’s a serviceable pair of Rockshox in rideable condition, it’s probably going to be sold for more than the servicing costs, which can easily get into triple figures just in parts before adding labour and initial cost of the fork!

    Forks like this sold for less than the going rate of a decent budget fork with coil springs and no damping are not even worth parts money if broken down.

    If you had the tools and know how to even dismantle it, you’d understand why. It’s full of gritty brown sauce and not a drop of oil!
    Damping fails well before this kind of damage often, and hours of use beyond any service intervals…

    Decent forks will always be worth decent money, they’re a service heavy item.

    The wrong fork will fail you fast, and only the best will last with care.
    The better the fork the bigger investment you are making in your riding.

    Buy cheap, and your missing the whole point.
    Coil will always outperform air, the weight penalty is a safety blanket, like getting puncture proof tyres…

  8. Is bad, you should get a new one. Meanwhile, you can use a sandpaper 3000 grain and polish to fix some of this damage.

    Edit: dont buy It!
