  1. Hello!

I recently purchased these 105 PD-R7000 pedals from ebay. I didn’t know at the time, but apparently fake knockoffs are a thing.. Is there any way to know for sure they are legit? I paid $78 for them, if I have reasonable doubt they’re legit I’ll just send them back and spend a little more. Imagine snapping a pedal off mid sprint.. I showed the pedals and box to my local trek shop and they said it looks legit.

    Thank you!

  2. If you provided an explanation of why you think they are fake, it does not show up on some versions of Reddit (Reddit fucking sucks at pictures + text). Please explain your worries and reasoning and tell us where you purchased the pedals.

  3. If you bought them on eBay for $78? Well yeah… Super high chance they are fake. eBay is rife with fake Shimano pedals, chains etc.

I haven’t seen any guides for spotting 105 fakes though, only Ultegra fakes.

  4. Certain items are known to be commonly counterfeited. Unfortunately, your particular model of 105 pedals are well known to be counterfeited. Here’s a video about it.

One thing from the video that shows yours is counterfeit is the lettering on the box of the genuine one is embossed whereas your counterfeit one is simply printed on in black ink.

So you have them now, you may not get your money back. Are they that bad quality fakes? I’d turn my nose up at a fake chain but they look ok from the photos

  6. Easiest way to check if they’re fake if you don’t have a genuine pair to compare is by turning the tension screw. Real one has detents and will click as you turn. Fake one will not.

  7. We let customers buy online and we’ll fit at our workshop if they can save a lot by going online so we fit a fair amount of stuff bought on the web. I’d say we get 3-4 fake Shimano products through a year. Mostly chains. It’s normally pretty easy to tell, shapes will be off, logo’s will normally be drawn incorrectly. Print on packaging is normally a giveaway.

I may be totally out of it… But why would anybody bother to knock off a company’s lowest priced product in the line?
