I had recently posted my millionth recommendation about how great Schwalbe Marathons paired with Tannus armour is, and got this bit of poetic justice.
I ended up running over a nail or staple or some long piece of metal that made it past the tires and armour. I needed pliers to pull it out of the tire. Instantly lost pressure and flatted out. Stopped riding within a few seconds.
My question, what the hell happened to this bead? The inside and outside both had strands of the wire poking through in opposite directions. Did it snap when it flatted or did it just give out?
This was truly a bastard of a fail too because the tire would not seat the bead. It looked like an old sock on the rim. I ended up limping home, having to deflate/re-seat several times.
How do I prevent this in the future?
