I argued with a bike shop tech who I let adjust my rear derailleur and I said that I thought the pinch bolt was installed upside down. He said it was not and that is properly installed. Was he right or am I right?

That’s kind of neat, I didn’t know about that. Makes it look sleeker.
What do you mean “upside down”? Do you mean that the cable should be on the near side of it?
What is a pinch bolt? And how does a bolt get installed “upside down”? Looks fine to me.
Update after I flipped it myself because I got tired of arguing with the guy.

There should be a slot impression cast on one side of the washer and that is the side the cable calls home.
