  1. Happens a lot with trek bikes. At the shop I used to work in we had a specific tool to remove the bolt and snapped rivet and then rivet in a new thread into the frame.
    Phone round a few more shops, maybe try a few Trek specific dealers.

  2. Yeah you need professional help… Sounds like a loose rivnut. You need a riv nut tool and you to extract the old riv nut without damaging the frame.

    I have the exact same Tr*k, and the same thing happened in the exact same spot, hahaha! I just bought a mini cordless rotary tool, cut off the bolt and rivet. The other part of the bolt fell off in the frame. I took it out by removing the fork, then put the fork back… Next step – replaced the rivet with a new one using a special hand rivet gun. Both tools cost ~ $50 on Amazon and 20-30mins of your time. You can find many videos on YouTube on how to do that.
