The “Macedonia” issue explained…

Macedonia is a geographic region that existed before North Macedonia and was separated between 3 countries – Greece, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia. It's cheeky for North Macedonia to take the name and start trying to claim anything in history with that name as their own. They have the right to a sovereign country, and even though I see why it's controversial, I don't even mind their name as confusing, as it makes learning the history of the region for outsiders. What I do mind is that people in the country are systematically mislead about their own history and taught to hate their neighbours. You can distingwish yourselves if that is what you want, but we all share a lot of history and our roots are interwoven – the hate is not helpful to this already wounded region

a lot of people in the region for the longest time did not care if they were "Greek" or "Bulgarian" (there is a story of a village deciding to become "Bulgarian" because the Bulgarian church paid for a priest for them, when the Greek church didn't want to).

this is further complicated by the fact that a lot of modern ethnic Greeks have more Slavic ancestry than ancient Greek ancestry. I don't think you will find large genetic differences between Greek Macedonia and Slavic Macedonia, the difference is in the language they speak and the modern nation they are a part of.

in the end, the fact that a national identity is a recent invention doesn't make it any less real to the people who identify with it (try telling a Palestinian that Palestinians are "fake" because nobody identified with it before the 20th century).

though trying to claim continuity with the Macedonia of Philip and Alexander when for the longest time there was no "Macedonian" state or identity in the region, and you don't even speak a language related to the Macedonian language that they spoke, is rather silly.

Funniest thing is that Aristotle, Alexander's tutor, was of Macedonian origins too, and no one says about him that he wasn't a Greek philosopher.

The term "Greek" or "Greece" didn't exist back then, yet Macedonia and Macedonians did! Yes, the ancient Helenistic tribal states had wars and disputes among themselves, but they always agreed about one thing.
They didn't understand that ancient Macedonian language, it wasn't even similar to their's. They hated the Macedonians. To them they were foreign barbarians as they called them, since the first Macedonian dynasty.
Everything I say it's from Greek books and sources. When Philip II subjugated them it was extremely humiliating to have a Macedonian as ruler. They plotted and succeeded in assassinating him.
It was a mistake and a blessing that Philip appointed Aristotle as a teacher to young Alexander and under his and his mother's influence he adopted a lot from the ancient Helenistic culture and language. But he never forgot his roots. Alexander The Macedonian!!! All the Balcan people today, carry some Macedonian genes. Greeks for sure, but Serbian and Macedonian equally. That is why his legacy can be claimed by ALL the people and nations he step foot in.
And he is remembered as Great!!!

Ok, i want to explain the whole situation and what i think, i may be wrong. Feel free to tell me ur opinion in the replies, but no war.
Before any speculations, i am not Macedonian

Lets start

What might be true, and not claimed by the macedonians, is that the treaty od bucharest 1913 split up macedonia to its neighbours and said to give it back 100 yrs later (this may also not be true beware)
So technicwlly they were supposed to give back the land in 2013. Alexander's spawn point was in Pella, modern day greece. However, while macedonia was in the ottoman empire, that land was theirs. Macedonia had its whole current land, but also the WHOLE macedonia region, which u can search up and see on google.

Another theory is that while greece's part of the macedonis region was not, in fact, named macedonia for over 3000 years. Macedonians will claim that greece changed the name to macedonia after they broke up from yugoslavia, starting beef on purpose.
Now i know, that macedonians are slavic, and the slavs were not on the balkan in alexanders time. Macedonia will claim that they are a mix

Also that statement from "alexanders country is greek why would they attack the other greek states", i agree with the comments as it is kind of dumb
