Saw this bike in Rotterdam. Gut feeling is that this bike was ones stolen, being neglected with all these nice parts on there without what it seems the original lock. So I thought I’d post it here. Maybe the original owner will see this post. Just in case, I left a note on the bike saying I wanna buy it and give it some tlc..

Perhaps they bought one of those “restomod” bikes off of Facebook?
I see cliche builds (no offense) like this on Facebook all the time, maybe an average Joe bought this and doesn’t really care about it
Doesn’t look stolen to me, but it needs a new chain
You trying to justify chopping the lock off or something?
Bike doesn’t look neglected imo. It’s all pretty shiny other than the chain. Could just be someone that’s had to store their bike outside for a little while. Or has gone away for a little while. Lola more like a passion project that someone’s slowly lost interest in.
People don’t tend to steal bikes to keep. They steal them to sell.
Holland capital of bike theft ,definitely not stolen
Stolen > sold > new owner doesn’t care that it has a surly fork and sunrise bars. It’s a bike minivan now.
Thief and mini villain accomplice?
Doesn’t look stolen to me NGL
The majority of ppl in the nl do not have a indoor spot for there bike, or simply don’t give a shit about it (yes even with expensive bikes)I’ve seen 3k plus bikes locked with a 12euro action lock.
If they want to take it they’ll take it no matter the lock
>without the original lock
Do bikes come with locks in that part of the world?
This bike has def been sitting unused for a while. Chain is rusted solid with frozen links in the rd, back tire is flat, there’s no way that’s rideable as is.
Stolen or not, who knows? Can’t assume. OP wants to buy it, left a note.
That’s the right thing to do.
Btw, what is that thing on the frame, a footpeg adapter? Why? Do they plan to add an electric motor? Even then.. 🤔
Original lock?
I am partial to the GT geometry.
Loosen up the screws to the stem, drop the fork, and Bam it’s gone! Freed from the lock entirely! Then I’m off to the Thunderdome for an all night Gabber Hardcore session!!
I know so many people with nice bikes that neglect the crap out of them
If this is what you think a shitty stolen bike looks like I’d hate to hear your opinion about the condition of my bike.
Hey. I have the same combination. This nice (and heavy as hell) fold lock for short rides around and stationary chain lock from a hardware store at the office. So my road to the office is always with empty lock mount, as well as parking there. Maybe this is the scenario
I’m living in the Netherlands and this is definitely not stolen, you’re way overthinking it just because it’s a GT. Zero signs of it truly being stolen. I’ve seen way shitter or sketchier bikes and that’s just how Dutch people ride their city bikes.
I’m also pretty sure a GT wouldn’t have a rear wheel lock, it’s only a small amount of the world that lock comes default on the bike.
What a wild assumption to make, if it was sitting there for a while other parts would have erosion on it too, look at those tires, hubs, bolts on the front fork, those all look mint. The chain probably looks like that cause of the insane amounts of salt they’ve been tossing on the roads in The Netherlands the last few months. And IF someone would’ve stolen such a unique bike they’ll likely never leave it out on the street like this. Probably just an owner that lives nearby and hasn’t used it for a few days/weeks.
