Check there isn’t a spacer on the freehub (behind the cassette) that you need to remove

I don’t see how it would make any difference but should the thru axle screw in from the disc side? Is this a new wheelset? It looks as though the end cap is missing.

Hi, you are missing the drive side end cap (or have the wrong endcap installed for that free hub body).
Backing up the thru axle and riding it like that is unsafe and will damage your components or teeth😀
If you could post a picture of the wheel itself from the cassette side that would help in deciding what steps to take.

Maybe missing endcap like others said. Or you’ve installed an XDR-cassette on an XD-freewheel body.
