Someone in my area is selling this XT cassette. They claimed it is in excellent condition, but my visual inspection of the photograph shows broken teeth and the largest cock and a lot of sharks teeth worn throughout the other cocks.
I guess I’m trying to ask is to evaluate this correctly.
They are asking for $30 but I would not give a nickel for this cassette.

The largest what now?
Meh. Tricky. I wouldn’t want to put a brand new chain on that.
There isn’t really a reliable way to visually inspect a cassette for wear. Those are not broken teeth, they are part of Shimano’s Hyperglide shifting ramp system. It allows the chain to derail and move up and down the cassette smoothly.
This honestly doesn’t look terrible, but again, there really isn’t a way to reliably inspect a cassette, visually. Sure if we see super bad shark teeth, its bad, but I don’t think we are seeing that here. Also, we could see nothing at all, and if you popped this in an ultrasonic cleaner it would look new, but still be clapped out.
Honestly, cassettes are kind of something you just shouldn’t buy used. If you really want to save the money, offer him $20 for it.
