I grabbed a 24" trek to fix up for my 6 year old but… wtf? Do I need to replace the entire wheel/hub/cassette?
I.. can't easily drop 500+ for my 6 year old shredder. Being, i thought, mechanically inclined, i could land a proper used deal?
I grabbed a 2021/2022 trek 24" 9 speed red (hard fork) mtb.
Cleaned it but….
Something is off. I work on the shifting but many middle gears jerk and don't engage the hub.
So either the cassette (9 speed) is shot or i don't understand what to tighten.

It's a 9 speed trek shaming and the nut is married already, there is no more tightening of value.
Is it stripped? Should I just replace it?
