Christian Vega and I racing in the IRecB1 classification at the 2023 Invictus Games in Dusseldorf Germany. I didn’t know it at the time but I was racing with a broken right foot. My right foot was so swollen I could barely get it in my shoe even with the laces as loose as possible.
I was so proud of Christian and how he picked up the drafting and cornering after only practicing it during the warm ups just before the race. Although I didn’t get the gold medal this was a gold medal moment for me and it felt just as great.
Sadly Christian passed away just a months later in Feb 2024. Rest in Aloha my braddah, a hui hou me ke Aloha.
