I am trying to get this old transition syren into rideable condition. It is missing the derailleur hanger. It has a sram x7 setup if that matters. Can I use a newer sram universal hanger? I can’t find much online for parts diagrams for this bike and am having trouble finding a hanger that is designed for this model.

No, you can not use the UDH. You need to go through websites that sell derailleur hangers and find one that would fit the shape on your frame. You can also call some local shops and ask if they have a variety of hangers at hand and take the frame there to see if one would potentially fit
