


I want to change the cassette on my old Trek road bike.
now it's running a 8 speed 12-25 sprockets. will 11-28 will work?
can i use any shimano 8s cassette?
thinking about claris hg50 casstte.
not sure of my rear derailleur model so cannot give more info…

The things you need to check for are:
– the capacity of your rear derailleur (what total difference of teeth between your sprockets and chainrings it can take up)
– the max sprocket size of your rear derailleur
These are somewhat related but still separate. Usually, “racing”/short-cage derailleurs have both limited capacity and limited maximum sprocket size.
There are not so many variants of Dura Ace derailleurs that look like yours, so the first step is to determine your exact model (use the websites velobase or disraeli gears). Either the parameters you are looking for are directly given on those websites, or you will at least be able to easily google them it you know your exact derailleur model number.
(PS based off memory I believe it could be a Dura Ace 7400, but please look it up and confirm yourself)
