In this special video, I was invited along to watch the deck slide of HS2’s Small Dean Viaduct at Wendover in Buckinghamshire. The deck slide took four days to complete and I visited the construction site on 31st January. I then came back on 2nd February to see it being pushed into its final position.

  1. Hi Karl. As soon as I heard the A413 was going to close for the deck slide I made a note to look out for a video from you. As always I was not disappointed. Great video!

  2. Fantastic mate. I was surprised how much it slides in each increment as I'd imagined really small movements. But it looks to be at least 500mm or more per shove. Thanks HS2 and Karl.

  3. Excellent video Karl. Just think in 5 years time, give or take the odd few months to allow for delays, you will be able to cycle along to where the new viaduct goes over the Chiltern line and take a few shots of Great British Railways latest rolling stock passing over at speed their oldest rolling stock ( the Class 165 turbos which will then be over 30 years old and with no sign of a replacement in sight as I type.

  4. Hi Karl, congrats on well deserved recognition. Great work you’ve put in to providing us interested folk with updates on the HS2 behemoth

  5. Congratulations, Karl. Hopefully HS2 will now have realised you are a producer of quality content, and will continue to invite you to milestone achievement events.

  6. I would like to share the sentiment of my fellows on the comments _ good work as always _ keep it up _ they are excellent viewing _ always clear & informative _ looking forward to the next installment _
let's hope you get invited to more sites along the hs2 route & get chance to film in even more detail _ Excellent work 👏

  7. Brilliant Video, thanks, known this area for 70 odd years, shame it's changed so radically there was a very old sign post by the rifle range pointing up Small Dean lane giving directions to Scrubwood (Dunsmore's old name) and the old road/track to the Leather Bottle, a lonely pub closed and demolished in to 50's.
