Don’t get me wrong. Vehicular cycling sucks. You’re way more likely to get close passed and deal with salty drivers who don’t know how to share the road. However, if you live in an area that has an incomplete network, don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s not possible to bike everywhere.
In 10 minutes I dealt with 2 motorists who decided to randomly honk at me, one of which was a distracted driver. This was during low traffic. I can only imagine how salty they’d be during rush hour. Drivers should advocate for good protected bike infrastructure purely out of self-interest. Clearly, some of them don’t want to share regular lanes with cyclists, and I bet they’re not happy when they come across traffic either.
A police report will follow for the distracted pickup truck driver.

I have a genuine fear of riding on the road that doesn’t have a proper bike lane. The other day I got intimidated and ran off into the grass. And I know the sidewalk is worse so I keep trying the road but it’s literally terrible. How do y’all do it?
