I’m in talks to buy this for $50 locally. Lugged frame in decent condition with what looks like 700c wheels. A little rusty in spots but nothing that some elbow grease won’t sort out.

I sold off a dozen bikes and frames when I downsize moved in 2023 and I really miss wrenching. Thought this might make for a fun hands on cushy hybrid project.

Problem is the lack of room now that I live in an apartment. I’ve always wanted a Peugeot to fix up but not sure how I’m going to work this out.

  1. They’re 26″ wheels, and very heavy steel ones by the looks of it. Small frame and narrow tires are probably making the wheels look bigger to you.

  2. You can buy it, mess with it and put it on a wall rack.
The frame is already a piece of art.

  3. Do it. Buy it. Jump off the ledge.

You came to the wrong subreddit for common sense or practicality my friend.

Those were super cheap bikes back in the day. Gaspipe tubing that rode like a Schwinn Varsity. This one looks especially nasty with all the rust. Get ready to spend lots of money on replacing all those stamped steel components.

  5. This is like walking into a bar and ask for help to stop drinking. I know the feeling though. That why i volunteer at my local co-op. Get to fix and build all the bikes I want. Not that this stops me from looking at bikes in marketplace and think about buying them but helps.

  6. I know your position, before I met my wife I had 30 bicycles in various states of repair plus parts, now I’m down to two for me and two for her

I have worked with 2 similarly built peugots from that era and they were HEAVY. But they do look awesome.

i like the saying “there’s nothing more expensive than a cheap German car,” which is how i feel about this rusty ass French bike

  9. Why in the world would I talk you out of this? The bike is rad. It may be heavy and you’ll likely want to swap most of the components, but the paint is cool and the lugs are cool.

I had one of those for a bit. It was a neat ride, though I did eventually sell it because there’s always something else cool.
