Hey everyone,
Apologies if this isn't the right group, but I’m looking for some advice! I’m an amateur cyclist looking to buy a new bike. I recently tried a friend’s bike and loved it—he mentioned it’s a flat bar gravel with 29” road tires.
I’ll mostly be riding solo and with my son (planning to add a child seat), mainly on roads and in the city, with the occasional nature ride.
I’d love your recommendations for a similar bike in the €400-700 range. Also, at 183 cm and 90 kg, I assume I’ll need a large frame—any sizing tips would be great!
P.s added a photo as an example that is close to the bike ive mentioned.
Thanks in advance for your help!

You may find a hybrid bike for that price, many of them will fit 40mm tires or a bit more. something like Kona Dew or Trek FX
Maybe you can find a used Commencal FCB? If you weren’t overseas I’d see if you wanted to buy mine 🤣 loved it, but regret not going drop bars for long rides. Wanted more hand positions so I ordered a Lauf Seigla.
In your budget range, you should look at the new Surly Preamble flat bar gravel, and it comes in a beautiful sky blue. But if you want something like that picture you’re going to have to spend a couple more euros, like 1500 more.
Here you go!

Flat bar, hydraulic disc brakes, gravel gearing, gravel tire clearance (the bike comes with 42mm tires, perfect for gravel. You could probably fit a 45mm in here for rougher trails, and this bike would handle fine with a 35mm. IMO, 42mm is the sweet spot for what you want), and in your budget.
If you want to spend more, you’ll be getting a wider gear range, but I don’t think you need that for what you’ve described. This is a great entry level bike for mixed use road/gravel. In a bike shop, it is very easy to recommend and sell. The Sirrus is a great product range.
Also, its probably worth checking out the Roll. Bigger tires and a more upright riding position. Those bikes are really fun to ride, but not for everyone. Its more of a bike for someone less athletic. If you’ve got decent base fitness, the Sirrus is the bike for you.
Giant ToughRoad or Giant Roam
If you are willing to consider 650bs trek dual sport is an excellent bike to look into.
Good choice. I just put a child carrier on my gravel with a drop bar this Xmas and regret not having flat bars for stability. Guess I need another N+1.
I got a Norco search Xr flat bar for around that price as my first gravel bike and I’m loving it. Comfortable geometry, climbs like a beast, and great as an everyday/commuter/pub bike etc. And like all stock bikes you’re going to want to replace the pedals, seat, go tubeless, etc etc

If you’re doing flatbar for gravel, I recommend just getting a hardtail MTB.
