My wife and I are pretty desperate to get some bikes out of the house and want to sell this Trek we haven’t touched in a few years. When I started cleaning it, I found two issues: the front chainrings are rusting and there is a crack on the front fork. I’m assuming this means the fork is toast.
Now the question- should I try to invest money into fixing up this bike (I would do all labor), or should I try to sell it as is? I have no idea for the new crankset, but I could probably find a similar used fork for around $50-$80.
I think it’s a Trek 1500 from 2005. (Broken) Carbon fork and aluminum body.
One step further, any estimates for what this bike could be worth, whether I elect to fix it up, or as is in its current condition? She bought it for $750 in 2020 out of necessity. We know it’s not worth that much, but are not sure what it should be.
