Hey folks,
I have been working on a project to map "microways" bike lanes, sidewalks and other features that matter to humans outside of cars (on bikes, on foot, in a wheelchair).
- Currently bike parking data is basically 0.
- The dedicated bike routing apps use OSM data and in there bike rack data is unrealiable. You can learn more here.
I think apps like Cyclers, Pointz, Bikehopper, Transit, Citymapper, Ride with GPS should have GREAT bike parking data.
So we're developing a scaleable system to map the world as we see it!
Here is a 6:13 minute video that explains what we're up to.
I'd love to get your take on it before I go too much further. We're starting where I live, but this solution is scaleable (or soon will be) and should be deployable all over world.
Thanks,

As a fellow map maker and cyclist, I like your thinking!
I haven’t really had issues parking my bike so I don’t see this as a priority. Maybe somewhere theres a more active cycling community it would be useful?
If this is a passion project awesome! But if this is a business venture I wonder how much demand there is and how youd monetize it. Good cycling navigation is something I’d pay for.
But best of luck to you! I also don’t want to discourage anyone from trying to make an app to make cycling better and more convenient.
I think this is a great idea, safe bike routing and safe places to lock your bike up are huge reasons there are so few commuters where I live
