Are you rotating out 4 chains for 1 bike or are there multiple bikes involved?

My bike is 11 speed, my wife’s bike is 10 speed, my son’s bike is 9 speed, so the chains are all different widths.
Chains come off, get waxed, then get put back on the bike they came from.

Pro tip: waxing is a great excuse to obtain more bikes, because if you have enough bikes you don’t need to worry about rotating multiple chains per bike. When one’s out of action for waxing just ride another one. Thank me later.

Why would I want to keep track of them?
There is a chain on my bike.
There is a spare chain. (The one with fresh wax on it)
My wear checker tells me they are both still good. If one is worn out I buy a new one.

I only have 2 per bike. One is in use, the other is in reserve. When I swap chains, I take the used one, put it in my wax crockpot, turn it on and come back (usually the next day) to remove it. Rinse and repeat. It’s such a hands off process for me that having more than 2 chains is overkill imo

1 – SRAM Red E1 Rainbow.
2 – SRAM Red E1 Silver.
3 – SRAM Red D1 Rainbow.
4 – SRAM Red D1 Silver.
5 – SRAM Force D1.
6 – SRAM Rival.
Joking aside, I just dump them all into the wax pot and use them as I need to, then dump them all into the wax pot again after I go thru them all. Rinse, repeat, no BS.

I store them in ziplock bags and put what bike they go on with a sharpie on the bag.

I keep them in carbonite. Step 1, clean chain. Step 2 melt wax block that contains previously waxed chain, freeing it for use. Step two, hang unfrozen chain to drip dry/cool. Step 3, drop cleaned chain into wax and turn off the heat. Once cool, carve the date in the wax and drop it into the carbonite drawer of frozen chains.

I ride one chain until it measures over 0.5% and put another on. Easy peasy.
My routine is to pop the chain off, set it on the cold wax pot, turn that on, and go take a shower. By time I am cleaned up the chain is ready to swish and drain.

A different colored stripe on the last outer link with a paint pen. I put it on after the first cleaning and before waxing.

I don’t understand this at all. I hot wax my chain every 1000mi and drip wax every 200. 2 12sp bikes, 2 chains, and 2 in reserve when these wear out after 5 or 6k miles.
