I looked for a Gravel for a couple of months now, and i was really close of buying the Canyon Grail. But then I found this version of Orbea Terra M31eTeam 1x with electronic SRAM (fully carbon was my only requirment)

Went to the store and the seller really primed me for buying it (his job, sure). What I really do not understand is if the so-said discount is real (4000 EUR -> 3250 EUR).

He did make it sound like it's my lucky day that they still have only one, my size, and it's discounted because 2024 model…

  1. That is a good deal. Sram AXS is great and Rival is a very nice drivetrain. I’m not a big fan of Sram’s hydraulic brakes but they’ve gotten a lot better in recent years.

I wouldn’t mind buying that bike for that price.

  2. I’ve not been on a Terra but they seem generally to be quite well liked by their owners. I have a carbon Orca and am very happy with it, ride quality is superb.

Orbea is generally pretty decent value and there are a lot of sales lately, so that bike at that price seems a good deal.

SRAM 1x eTap is pretty nice. As another person said, though, SRAM’s road brakes have kind of not been popular in the past – they work perfectly fine but feel mushy compared to Shimano or to many MTB brakes that have more positive feedback. To some degree it is personal taste. I have also heard that they are improving but the Force or Rival 2×12 I rode a couple years ago on a road bike was not my favorite.

Personally, just going off my own impression of Canyon vs Orbea for brand quality and customer service, I would prefer Orbea and if the bike fits and you like the color and like the SRAM brakes, I’d go for it.
