I took my rear wheel off and had a look at the cassette driver and it’s frigged.

it’s partly loose and partly sealed

Eastern hub

  • had like 4-5 ball bearings missing, and a few that were in half
  • I think the thing called the shell? That’s scored and hurt
  • the inside of the driver (I hope I’m using the right word) where all that crap goes is hurt
  • those bits and pieces of metal are surely not a good sign

Pawls are fine and where the whole thing goes into the hub, that’s fine

What do I need to do to get riding? I’m financially strapped atm between work so if it’s replacement I’ll be waiting a wee bit.

  1. It looks to me to be a Joytech 9 tooth driver. They make a lot of hubs and hub components that other brands stamp their name on. You can usually find them pretty cheap. Try to compare them in person if you can, but I am 90% certain thats what it would be

  2. Spending a little more on a sealed bearing hub will cost less in the long run over chasing the countless problems these looseball hubs have.

  3. If you have a local bike shop, maybe reach out and get an estimate how much it would cost to get you rolling again if they have some parts in stock and it’s worth repairing. Otherwise, a new budget wheel isn’t too expensive nowadays, $100 or less.
