Worst bearing failure that has happened to me. There was a bit of play in the bearing the day before, so I planned on changing it over the weekend. My BB had other plans. Rode to work the next morning, and it completely failed on my way back. The bearings of the drive side fell out of it, so I did 10km straight on the spindle, passing by my local shop to get a new one.

Is my bike OK? /S

  1. If thread on frame for monoblock is not chewed up you should be good for swapping new one in.

  2. Short answer is no. Please take it to LBS. They might have to sell you a new bike… you have waited a bit too long for service

    Needs grease!

And a new bb! And what are those barnacles under the downtube??

If that was mine, I’d take it apart and try to clean everything, and in the process discover other things that need replacing other than the bb.

  4. When your bike develops stalagmites, you know it’s not doing well. While you’re at it, take care of all the rust on the drivetrain.

  5. This is bad. Congrats for riding it for as long as you did. Looks like a new bottom bracket might do the trick.
